History

The estate of Son Serralta has it´s roots deep in Mallorcan history, the site having elements still in existence from over 3,000 years ago. Dating from the middle ages, around 900ad to 1229ad, as part of the Moorish occupation of the islands (who created the basis of what later became, after the Reconquista a «Posessió», an authentic Mallorcan estate/possession) various constructions still exist today and this can be considered the first existence of the current estate as it stands today.

Throughout the ages, this historically important estate has been owned by the Count of Montenegro amongst other important and influential families of the islands and continental Europe.

After the extensive renovation and restoration done in the seventies by the family who currently owns it, Son Serralta received a new life that allows it to shine again, even brighter than at any other moment in its long history.

Estate Son Serralta forms an important cultural centre-point for the area of Puigpunyent. Historically Son Serralta has been a centre of production for charcoal, quicklime, olives, olive oil and associated agricultural materials.
